Greetings from the Resource Centre! I am back in the library and am here to assist the community with their Library needs. There will be quite a few new things happening within the next few months to increase programming, provide better service as well as access to a wider range of databases for both students and the community.
First will be the development of the T.A.G. – the Teen Advisory Group – this program will be specifically for teens ages 12 – 19 years of age. Where T.A.G. teens can help library staff create exciting and interesting programs and activities for teens at the library, and can promote the library’s services and programs for young adults among their peers. Possible activities include: help plan and perform programs! Give ideas for the T.A.G. Webpage! Create teen-oriented displays to promote reading! Suggest books, movies & music for purchase! Contribute to the new teen section of the newsletter! This program will also provide teens with the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge about themselves, their community and their friends! Come join us and be a member of an awesome program!!
Second, the Coffee Hour’s are back – on a new day! Monday mornings! Come on in and enjoy meeting new people, learn about new subjects, offer suggestions for guest speakers and just come on in and visit!
Third, Craft days will be happening, our first one is Valentine’s Day! Come make a special gift for a loved one! There will be one a month for parents and children to participate in!
Feel free to stop in at any time to sign out books, check out the online databases, find new reading materials, get help with the internet! One of the databases would appeal to the back yard mechanics out there – tired of looking for repair manuals? Don’t have the money to buy that repair manual?? Then come on into the library and I can show you how you can look up repairs and maintenance for vehicles both new and used! Once shown, feel free to access the database at home!
Other programs being developed for the community are: Adult Story Time, Genealogy, Children’s Story time! Now’s the time to come find out what is @ your library!

The Canadian Aboriginal Writing Challenge, an initiative of the Dominion Institute, is a creative writing contest for young Aboriginal Canadians (status, non-status, Métis and Inuit) between the ages of 14-18 and 19-29.
Participants
are asked to write about an event or historical moment in Aboriginal
history or relating to their personal ancestry. Winners are chosen by
an advisory
panel of Native authors and community leaders including Tomson Highway,
Tantoo Cardinal and Chief Patrick Brazeau. The top entries in each age
category win $2000, a trip to Calgary for the awards ceremony and have
their stories published in The Beaver: Canada’s History Magazine.
This year is the 5th year of the contest (deadline March 31, 2009) and
we would like to get the word out to Native student groups at college
and university campuses across the country.
