Garden River Resource Centre

The Garden River Resource Centre was established on March 12, 1976 in the old SHKE – SAHKEHJEWAOSA community centre.  The Resource Centre was located in the basement of the Band Office for several years and then moved to the Education/Recreation Centre in 2016.

The Resource Centre is a registered Public Library that receives assistance from the Ontario Library Services.   “The Ontario Library Service was established through an amalgamation of Ontario Library Service-North (OLS-North) and Southern Ontario Library Service (SOLS). OLS-North & SOLS, in turn, grew out of an amalgamation of regional library systems that themselves had provided support and development services to the libraries in their regions for decades. Ontario Library Service now serves the public libraries of over 300 municipalities and 45 First Nation public libraries across the Province of Ontario.” (https://www.olservice.ca/about)

Currently, due to covid, services have been at a minimal due to restrictions and public safety.  Once everything can be opened up to the public, then the library will be operating fully and will welcome all band and community members to come in for services and future library programming.
